The RMIT SEH (College of Science, Engineering and Health) ‘Future Colleges’ project was a major internal refurbishment and fundamental workspace restructuring of 11 sites in RMIT’s Melbourne, Carlton, Bundoora West and Bundoora East campuses. For staff and HDR students it included open and closed plan offices, meeting rooms and break-out and amenity spaces, while for teaching staff it included bespoke science and engineering laboratories. With extensive stakeholder consultation across multiple disciplines and personalities, under the challenging context of migrating more than 360 staff, the project exceeded its ambitions through clever and innovative design with a density uplift of 40% in the CBD that returned more than double the originally projected floor area to the University.
